#13 (That) Sunday Roundup
I should have posted this long time ago but since last week was a lot like hell, this post about Sunday, July the 10th have been on pending mode for almost two weeks and only now that I get to publish them.
Well, Sunday the 10th could possibly be the most exciting day for me in the month of July so far. If you’re Malaysians, or just a citizen of the Earth who’s concern, you’d know that July 9th was the day when (selected) Malaysians protested under the name of Bersih 2.0 for electoral reform.
On Sunday, Kuala Lumpur was way calmer unlike always. And that morning, I had an assignment on the bridge of the tallest twin towers in the world: the Petronas Twin Tower. It’s for my two main segments for last week’s episode on Eversendai Corp Berhad, the company who did the steel construction works for the Tower 2 (and the world tallest building Burj al-Khalifa in Dubai).
Thanks to Petronas’ efficient Corporate Comm team and my intern Fiza, we managed to get the permission to shoot though we contacted them at the very last minute. The shoot went well though I was completely unprepared… only did the reading and stand-up scripts in the car on the way to work and to the tower (bad example!).
After the shoot, I decided to stick around KLCC and meet up with Nazri Ahmadeus of ROTTW. We sat down at Coffee Bean and chatted about everything music-related. This guy… oh God, he’s like a music bible, a moving music dictionary. Soft-spoken and humble yet so well-versed. Felt totally intimidated sitting by his side and yet there were just too much to learn. I gave a him a CD I got for him from LA and a copy of Filter mag that he requested with Where The Wild Things Are on the cover. He gave me a few copies of ROTTW in return.
From KLCC, off I went to meet up with friend/brother/fellow-band mate Aben who were waiting for me in Subang Jaya. I took the train to KL Sentral and changed from Putra to Komuter and head my way to Subang Jaya. We wanted to jamm but with only the two of us, we decided to just let loose, get ourselves something to eat and then we head down to Subang’s lake nearby. The best part? Having BFF/band mate Azhar joining us.
So the one thing that I waited in anticipation was our Wondermilk session. Yes, Malaysia’s very own cafe-chain/cupcakes expert/lomo ambassador/anything-and-everything-cool invited us to perform at their newest outlet at Citta Mall. There were a bunch of other great performers and we were one of them.
Since going through my dark days circa post-LA till pre-working phase, I’ve decided to quit singing for good. Well, that never happened. Why? Singing is one of my biggest passion and no matter how insane I could be on stage/when singing, it’s me in my truest form. So yeah, after that TV competition and months of absence from shows, I decided to perform again. And yes, the band now have a new name too. ;D
And above all, I got some of my favorite people in the world coming together to support us! My dear Kak Long was there! Azhar tagged along. Pojart and Kak Dee made a surprise visit. I finally get to meet Aben’s girlfriend, Fatin. My favorite junior-turn-Bernama colleague Amad dragged the hotties Azizi and Hakim along. And a friend of Tagg Syahrul, Zunaira a.k.a Along stopped me and said, “I came back just to see you perform.”
As expected, I went all out. Sang my heart out with five of our original numbers. It’s one of the simplest sets we’ve done so far and I’m always comfortable singing with Aben on guitar. He knows me best. We know each other best, musically. The baristas at Wondermilk counter cheered for us and I got a balloon from one of the staff.
I’m grateful for the chance to sing again cause to be frank, I miss it. Thanks to Sarah for inviting us. Mo should have been with us too, we’d be complete.
p.s. Did I mention, we ended the day with a late night dinner at Papa Rich, Bangsar. Felt really good to be around my favorite people, the people whom I care and love very dearly. And I’m sure they care for me too.
I just love my life. ;D
