#11 To live, to be humble and to inspire
The best part about my job is… I get to slacking and write a Tumblr entry during work. Hah! No, that’s not really my point though it’s true but NO… that’s not what I’m trying to say right here.
To tell you the truth, the best part about my job is I get to meet people. Since I’m currently doing a lot of business-related assignments, the kind of people I usually meet or interview are business leaders, marketing people, corporate people and the likes.
Each and everyone of them have their own way to inspire me or perhaps not at all (depending on who the person is). They could look me in the eye, and within those words and figures they’re sharing about their respective companies lies some hidden motivational words.
But despite how impressive their success are to most, only a few that really had an impact towards me. And this man in the picture below is one of them.
For these past two weeks I’ve met up with two great Malaysian Indian businessmen and both of them share some similar characteristics. Firstly, both of them are soft spoken lads who when they respond to your questions, they look you in the eye and and speak with passion and enthusiasm with those subtle voices.
Secondly and most importantly, both have no tertiary education qualifications most find essential in making it in the competitive world out there and yet both prove with hard work, passion, focus and a little luck… one could still succeed and perhaps becoming one of the country’s richest too! (Yes, Dato’ A. K. Nathan was on Forbes Asia Malaysia’s Richest list last year!)
But what amazes me was, they both are really humble. Both are extremely soft-spoken. There’s like a zen-feeling to them that made you feel really calm with them around.
Unlike most renowned business leaders, Dato’ A. K. Nathan surprised me most by coming to the studio alone. No Personal Assistants. No PR officer. He kept close to him his two Blackberrys at all time in which I had the honor of keeping them for him while he was recording.
Shan told me that he had no driver and he drove his own car where he parked at the usual staff parking when he came to Wisma Bernama yesterday. Man, such a grounded man… how can’t you not feel inspired?
Oh I forgot to mention about who the other great gentleman is. It’s S. Perry, Managing Director of Tex Cycle Sdn Bhd. I have no picture of him with me. Taking post-shooting pictures were never in my utmost priority.
I’ll meet up with Dato’ Nathan next week on Tuesday for more shoots and interviews. The best part? I’m going to his house for CEO Trivia. His crib! Yay!
